Sutter's Fort is visited by the fourth graders in an overnight
stay. They study the contribution of this community to California.
- Virtal Museum of Sutter's Fort
- This virtual museum is to acquaint students
with John Sutter and his fort and the part both played in history.
California changed forever when gold was discovered near John Sutter's
mill in 1848. Over 80,000 "49ers", or gold seekers, were
prospecting in hopes of making their fortune. The state went from
being part of Mexico to the 31st state of the union in 1850 and Sacramento
it's capital.

- This interactive biographical dictionary provides concise profiles of the men and women featured in THE WEST, as well as information about many individuals who are mentioned only in passing. - Sutter's Fort Archives
- The Fort's archives house photographs, daguerreotypes, tintypes, diaries, letters, maps, business records, and an extensive collection of books, all documenting the lives of Sutter and the pioneer families that settled in early California. This extensive collection is available to researchers by appointment and research inquiries are always welcome.

- Historic California Posts: Sutter's Fort
- A private trading post and fortified defense that became the foundation for modern Sacramento, it was established by a former Swiss army captain, John (Johann) Augustus Sutter, who is considered the founder of American agriculture in California.
