Counseling is provided by Mrs. Autumn Finnerty.

Mrs. Finnerty comes to SHPS with a wealth of dynamic experience and expertise. She has two years of service in Marriage and Family Therapy at CHW's Children's center, combined with two years service as a school counselor. Mrs. Finnerty is professinally trained with an MA Counseling Psychology and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential.

Expanded Services

We have expanded our counselor's time on campus to three days per week to provide a variety of support services to students and teachers. Such counseling services include:

• assessments of students referred to counseling
• counsel children and parents on an individual and group basis
• conduct support groups for students around issues such as
  • divorce
  • social skills
  • friendship
  • self-esteem
• consult with the principal and teachers on student issues related to counseling
• observe students in class or on the playground
• consult with teachers on possible intervention strategies
• classroom presentations

Parents are encourged to give annual permission for individual, confidential counseling visits during each school year. Students can be referred for counseling through self-referral, parent-referral, or principal/teacher referral.
